Harpley Doctors gives the free flu vaccine in Werribee to every patient, at our clinic in Harpley Town Centre. Everyone aged six months and over is recommended a flu vaccine every year, and some groups are also funded nationally under the National Immunisation Program. Who the free flu vaccine in Werribee is for
The Department of Health flu vaccine guidance lists these groups as eligible for a free flu vaccine nationally under the National Immunisation Program:
- children aged six months to under five years
- pregnant women, at any stage of pregnancy
- people aged 65 and over
- Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people aged six months and over
- people aged six months and over with certain medical conditions, such as heart, lung, kidney or neurological conditions, diabetes and other metabolic conditions, or a weakened immune system

When to have your flu vaccine
You can be vaccinated any time from April. Flu season usually peaks between June and September, and the Australian Immunisation Handbook notes that protection is highest in the first three to four months. Children under two having a flu vaccine for the first time need two doses, a month apart. It is best to book early in the season.
Is the flu vaccine safe?
Flu vaccines do not cause the flu. Healthdirect lists common short-lived side effects, such as a sore arm or feeling tired. Afterwards you stay at the clinic for at least 15 minutes, as the Australian Immunisation Handbook recommends, and you should not drive during that time. The flu vaccine can be given on the same day as your COVID-19 vaccine, whooping cough vaccine or pneumococcal vaccine.
