Seasonal Vaccines in Werribee

Harpley Doctors gives seasonal vaccines in Werribee, including the flu vaccine, which is free for every patient. Seasonal immunisations are recommended each year to reduce the risk of seasonal sickness, and for those who qualify, other seasonal vaccines are free too.

Why Vaccinate Every Year

Flu viruses change from year to year and protection from the vaccine fades over time, so a yearly flu vaccine is recommended for everyone aged 6 months and over. In Victoria, flu activity usually peaks between June and August, and protection takes about two weeks to develop, so autumn is a good time to be vaccinated. If you miss that window, it is still worth being vaccinated later in the season.

Seasonal Vaccines at Harpley Doctors

  • Flu vaccines for adults and children from 6 months
  • COVID-19 vaccination
  • RSV vaccination
  • Pneumonia (pneumococcal) vaccination

Free Flu Vaccines

Under the National Immunisation Program, the flu vaccine is free for children aged 6 months to under 5 years, pregnant women, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people from 6 months, people aged 65 and over, and people with certain medical conditions. At Harpley Doctors, the flu vaccine is free for every patient. See our Flu Vaccines page for this season’s details.

RSV and COVID-19

RSV usually causes mild, cold-like symptoms, but it can lead to serious lung infections such as bronchiolitis and pneumonia, especially in babies, young children and older adults. COVID-19 vaccine recommendations depend on your age and health, so your GP can tell you whether another dose is due, and whether you should have an RSV vaccine.

Protecting Babies and Older People

A flu vaccine during pregnancy protects you and helps protect your baby in the first months of life. Older adults and people with ongoing health conditions are at higher risk from flu, COVID-19 and RSV, so ask your GP which vaccines you are due for.

On the Day

  • Tell us if you are unwell, have allergies or have reacted to a vaccine before
  • Wear a short-sleeved top
  • Plan to stay in the clinic for about 15 minutes after your vaccine

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I bring an interpreter?

Yes. Tell reception before your visit, and we can request an onsite interpreter in advance or arrange a telephone interpreter.

Can I have my flu and COVID-19 vaccines together?

Yes. The COVID-19 vaccine can be given at the same time as, or any time before or after, a flu vaccine. Ask your doctor at your appointment.

What if I have a cold when I come in?

Let us know before your vaccine. A mild cold without a fever is usually not a reason to delay, but if you have a fever your doctor may suggest waiting until you are well.

What should I bring to my appointment?

Please bring your photo ID, your Medicare card and any concession cards. If you are a new patient, arrive at least five minutes early or complete the new patient form before your visit.

What if I can’t make my appointment?

Please let reception know as early as you can on (03) 8731 1330. Our cancellation policy is on the Patient Info and Fees page.
