45 to 49 and 75+ Health Assessments in Werribee
Medicare funds longer GP health assessments at certain ages, and Harpley Doctors offers them from our clinic in Harpley Town Centre, Werribee. People aged 45 to 49 at risk of chronic disease can have a one-off assessment, and a 75 plus health assessment is available every year. This page explains who is eligible, what is covered and how to book.
Which health assessments are available
Under the Medicare Benefits Schedule, as Services Australia sets out:
- ages 45 to 49 at risk of developing a chronic disease: once only
- a 75 plus health assessment: once every 12 months, for people not in hospital or residential aged care
- Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health assessments: at any age, no more than every 9 months
- type 2 diabetes risk evaluation: ages 40 to 49 at high risk, once every three years
What a 75 plus health assessment covers
Your GP looks at your physical health, medicines, memory, mood, mobility and how you are managing at home, then agrees a plan with you. Allow extra time, and bring your medicines and any recent letters.
At 45 to 49
The one-off check looks at your risk of conditions such as heart disease and diabetes, so changes can start early. See also our heart health check and diabetes care pages.
Booking your assessment
Call (03) 8731 1330 to book a 75 plus health assessment or a 45 to 49 check, so the right time is set aside. Vaccines often due at these ages include the shingles vaccine, pneumococcal vaccine and flu vaccine. Ongoing care is covered under chronic condition management and Medical Check-Ups; meet our doctors, and new patients can fill in the new patient form first.
