Vaccinations in Werribee

Harpley Doctors gives vaccinations in Werribee at our clinic in Harpley Town Centre, so your GP can check your records and give the vaccines you are due in one visit. Vaccines help reduce the spread of disease and train your immune system to fight disease-causing organisms. Keep your family’s vaccines up to date, especially before you travel.

Why Vaccination Matters

Vaccines teach the body to recognise and fight specific diseases. When enough people in a community are vaccinated, those diseases also find it harder to spread, which helps protect babies who are too young to be vaccinated. Keeping your family’s vaccinations up to date is one of the simplest ways to look after your health and the health of the people around you.

Vaccines Through Life

  • Babies and young children: the routine childhood schedule, from birth to 4 years
  • Teenagers: vaccines such as HPV, offered through the school program
  • Pregnancy: whooping cough and flu vaccines
  • Older adults: flu, pneumococcal and shingles vaccines
  • Work and travel: vaccines such as Q fever and yellow fever, depending on your job or destination

Catching Up

If you or your child missed a vaccine, it is usually not too late. Your GP can work out a catch-up plan, and some catch-up vaccines are free for eligible people.

Free Vaccines for Eligible People

The National Immunisation Program funds many vaccines, including childhood vaccines and vaccines during pregnancy. Eligibility depends on the vaccine, your age and your health, so your GP can check which vaccines you or your children are due for and whether they are free for you.

Your Vaccination Appointment

Before any vaccine, your doctor will check your health, allergies and vaccination history, and answer your questions. Afterwards you will usually be asked to wait in the clinic for about 15 minutes so staff can watch for any immediate reaction.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why do some vaccines need boosters?

Protection from some vaccines fades over time, so a booster dose tops it up. Your GP can tell you which boosters you are due for.

What if I can’t make my appointment?

Please let reception know as early as you can on (03) 8731 1330. Our cancellation policy is on the Patient Info and Fees page.

Do I need a referral?

No. You can book directly with a GP at Harpley Doctors, online or by calling (03) 8731 1330.

How can I check which vaccines I’ve had?

Vaccines are recorded on the Australian Immunisation Register. You can view your immunisation history through your Medicare online account in myGov, or ask us to check at your appointment.

What if I feel unwell after a vaccine?

Mild side effects such as a sore arm, headache or low fever are common and usually pass within a day or two. Contact us if you are worried, and call 000 for a severe reaction.

What if I need a doctor when the clinic is closed?

Contact 13 SICK (13 7425) when our clinic is closed. In an emergency, call 000.

Can I bring an interpreter?

Yes. Tell reception before your visit, and we can request an onsite interpreter in advance or arrange a telephone interpreter.
