The Australian Government’s National Immunisation Program (NIP) already funds the seasonal flu vaccine for several at-risk groups — children 6 months to 5 years, adults 65 and over, pregnant patients, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, and anyone with a chronic medical condition. That’s the standard. At Harpley Doctors, we go a step further: we cover the cost of the vaccine ourselves for every patient who isn’t NIP-funded. When to get vaccinated in Werribee
Flu activity in Victoria typically peaks between June and August. Protection takes about two weeks to develop and lasts three to four months, so vaccinating in April to June covers the worst of the season. What happens during your appointment
- Walk in or book online — the appointment takes about 15 minutes total.
- Our nurse confirms a few quick safety details (allergies, recent illness).
- You receive the vaccine as a single intramuscular injection in the upper arm.
- We ask you to wait 15 minutes in the clinic afterwards for routine observation.
- Mild soreness at the injection site is normal for a day or two — Panadol sorts it out.
